Film at CAT - Stage Mother

“Stage Mother,” is a poignant comedy-drama which tells the story of parents who reject their gay son and the lengths the mother goes to after he dies to understand him better. When conservative, Texas church-choir director Maybelline (played by Jacki Weaver) inherits her recently deceased son's drag club, she surprises her closed-minded husband and everyone else she knows by moving alone to San Francisco to save the club from bankruptcy. In this raucous, racy new environment, she begins to open up and find new meaning for her life, even becoming a mother-figure to the club's flamboyant performers...until a surprise visit threatens to upend her new life. Also stars a wonderful cast of Lucy Liu, Adrian Grenier and Mya Taylor. [2020, US, 93 min, Rated: R]. Venue: Cinema Art Theater. Presenter: Rehoboth Beach Film Society.
