SUMMARY:Conversation with Kitty Zeldis\, author of One of Them
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:Join us in the library or online for a conversation with Kitty
 Zeldis\,\nauthor of One of Them\, a story of secrets\, friendship\, and be
trayal\nabout two young women at Vassar in the years after World War II. T
his\npowerful and moving tale of prejudice and pride echoes the cultural\n
and social issues of today. Anne Bishop seems like a typical Vassar\nsopho
more—one of a popular group of privileged WASP friends. None of\nthe gir
ls in her circle has any idea that she’s Jewish\, or that her\nreal name
is or that her real first name is Miriam. Her secret life is\nthreatened
when she becomes fascinated by a girl not in her crowd.\nDelia Goldhush is
  sophisticated\, stylish\, brilliant\, and unashamedly\nJewish—and seems
not to care that she’s an outcast among the other\nstudents. Knowing th
at her growing closeness with Delia would be\nsocial suicide if it were di
scovered\, Anne keeps their friendship\nquiet. Delia seems to understand
—until a cruelty on Anne’s part\ndrives them apart and sends them scat
tering to other corners of the\nworld\, alone and together. Born in Chader
a\, Israel\, Kitty Zeldis is\nthe pseudonym for an award-winning author of
nine novels and over\nforty books for children. Her essays\, articles and
short fiction have\nbeen published in many national and literary publicat
ions. She is also\nthe Fiction Editor of Lilith Magazine. Zeldis lives in
Brooklyn\, NY. \nNOTE: this session is available to attend in-person or t
hrough Zoom.\nYou MUST REGISTER and indicate which you prefer. Venue: Lewe
 s Public\nLibrary.
